New Year's Eve Party at Westlake Yacht Club

A wonderful 2004 ended with a blast at Westlake Yacht Club (WYC). This year's party was hosted by Vice Commodore Randy DeMaio and wife Jan with the theme "Putting on the Ritz" - a challenge Club members fully achieved. A large backdrop of the New York City skyline set the mood.

A 5-piece band from the Copy Cats, "Heavy Mellow", kept the dance floor filled with their swing music and golden oldies like "Old Time Rock 'n Roll". Above the band was a large arch of black and white balloons, crowned with silver balloons spelling out "2 0 0 5".

Boccaccio's catered the event, starting with hors d'oeuvres including brochetta, crab-stuffed mushrooms, pate and salmon. The main course was filet mignon and lobster. All of this was complimented by desserts from Pluskos Valley Bakery. The food was great!

Norm and Jean Baker, WYC members who now live in Virginia, came back to Conejo Valley on vacation and joined the party. It was a pleasure to see old friends return.

The evening's favorite guest was Jan Holloway, Mrs. Commodore in 2003, who received a warm welcome after returning from a recent hospitalization.

The Club was beautifully decorated by Jan and Randy DeMaio, Sulinda Dalton, Tink Henderson and Commodoress Penny Singer. Randy created a false ceiling and covered it with black and white balloons and simmering streamers. Sulinda created the cut glass centerpieces with black and white feathers and accented the tablecloths with matching cut glass chips. The walls were adorned with lights and feathers to match the centerpieces.

There were festive hats and horns for the gentlemen, and feathered tiaras adorned the ladies.

Guests danced and reveled away the last of 2004.

The best part of this glorious evening was spending it with so many very dear friends that make the Westlake yacht Club an extended family.
