After a wonderful
summer of championship regattas, great parties, and a charity
fund-raiser at Westlake Yacht Club (WYC), party lovers and sailors
alike are preparing for an exciting holiday season. Summer was a
warm-up to the great events that lie dead-ahead.
Sailing
enthusiasts are looking forward to WYC's Holiday Series. The Series
begins with the Trick-or-Treat Regatta on October 24, continues with
the Turkey Day Regatta on November 14, and climaxes with the Kris
Kringle Regatta on December 12. For ten years, the Holiday Series has
been generously sponsored by Young Realtors. Joan Young, a WYC
member, says her goal is "to promote youth sailing in the
Westlake area, particularly at this time of year". The Series
will be run from the Race Tower by Staff Commodore Franklin Cofod.
Nifty trophies, consistent with the theme of each holiday, will be
awarded to the best (or luckiest) sailors.
Meanwhile party
lovers are preparing for their holiday season events. The Spooks'
Halloween Costume Party will be on (you got it) October 30 -
"things that go bump in the night will get you if you don't
dress in costume". There will be prizes for best costumes, great
music and a last meal catered by "Dr. Frankenstein"
("Eeeeat this way"). The next Club party will be even
scarier New Officers' Installation Dinner on November 20 (just
kidding). On December 3, everyone will enjoy the Club Holiday Party,
followed by the All-Fleets Party on December 18. The pinnacle of the
year's social calendar is the always-spectacular New Year's Eve Party
(get ready to "man the tuxedos") - reserve early, because
this always sells out.
If you're not
having fun here, check your pulse!

Everyone Invited
to Holiday Parade of Lights
Westlake Yacht
Club will hold its annual Parade of Lights on Westlake Lake on Sunday
December 5. This is a wonderful holiday event, with beautifully
decorated boats parading in front of the Club and around the lake.
Westlake Yacht Club is pleased to invite everyone in the Conejo
Valley community to join us in enjoying this great Westlake holiday
tradition. Club membership is not required to observe the spectacle
or participate in the parade. Any WLMA-licensed boat may enter the
parade. Boaters must register with WYC, observe lake rules regarding
life preservers and must not overload their boats. Once again, this
year's Parade of Lights will be sponsored by WYC members Cheryl and
Skip Toller of ElectraCraft. This year's theme is "Holiday
Reflections". A procession of brilliantly and creatively
illuminated boats will begin circling in front of the Club at 5:30
pm, while judges select the best entrants in each of several
categories . Starting at 6:00 pm, the parade will begin a tour around
the lake. Food, drinks, and the "best chili on the lake"
will be available.
ElectraCraft will
hold a free seminar on boat decorating at WYC on November 14 at 10:00
am. Anyone wanting to know how many lights your batteries can run,
how to tow a generator, or where to buy a paddle is invited.
