If you want to
enjoy boating and parties on the beautiful lake in Westlake Village,
you have are only three options:
1. Pay $1,000,000+
2. Wait 6 years
then pay $35,000
3. Pay $1,800 and
have fun now!
If you picked
option 1 or 2, go to the back of the class! Option 1 is buying a
house on the lake. Option 2 is waiting for a slip and then buying a
boat; but this is only available if you live in the area near the
lake. Option 3 is joining Westlake Yacht Club (WYC) and using our
boats, and this option is open to everyone - boat ownership and local
residency are not required. Small wonder that so many Conejo Valley
residents are joining WYC. Here are some great stories about a few of
Westlake Yacht Club's newest members.
Midge and Ernie
Colton recently moved back to Westlake Village. They joined WYC
because Midge had been a member some years earlier. Ernie says
"This is more of a social life than I've had for the last 30
years. WYC has turned out to be more pleasant than I expected - I'm
more than happy. Everyone's been so friendly and nice."
Jon Payne of
Calabasas is a busy executive with limited time for recreation with
his young family. He joined WYC because it "offers a great
lifestyle. WYC provides ready-to-go boats (electric and sail) on a
local lake at extremely minimal cost, and that's coupled with great
social events."
Rick and Elena
Williams and their 3-year old son Taylor live in Agoura Hills. Rick
says "WYC provides unique access to the lake, where else can you
enjoy sailing and boating in this area?"
Jan and Kathleen
Schiffmann live in Newbury Park. She is a high school counselor; he
is a computer scientist. They enjoy biking, hiking and softball. Now
they've decided to meet new friends and learn to sail. Kathleen says
"Westlake Yacht Club has a great location. I love to sit outside
and enjoy the view. I like that Westlake Village is a great, small
community where it's easy to get to know people. Some people think
yacht clubs are filled with stuffy old men in peculiar uniforms, but
WYC is cool and casual. I can sit with different people on different
nights and make new friends each time."
Bill and Claire
Meyer of Malibu have a 13-year old daughter, Kate who enrolled in
WYC's Summer Sailing program and won second place in our charity
Sail-a-Thon. Claire proudly told us that Bill is a cancer survivor.
Stanford University doctors said he had end stage throat cancer (even
though he's never smoked) and advised him to quickly settle his
affairs because there was nothing they could do to save him. But with
his family's support, Bill never gave up hope. He tried many
treatments including a severe, experimental regiment of radiation
therapy. He lost 95 pounds and barely survived, but the cancer was
destroyed. Now six years later, Bill is still cancer-free. I'm
particularly touched by Bill's story since I was once head of R&D
for the world's leading manufacturer of radiation therapy equipment.
Claire bought a WYC membership for Bill as a surprise present, so he
could spent his free time sailing with Kate. Claire says, "WYC
provides a wonderful opportunity for families to get together and
have wholesome, outdoor fun. The summer sailing program for kids is a
great asset to the community - it adds tremendous value."
George and Leslie
Cavelli live in Westlake Village. George is a CPA and Leslie is a
registered nurse. George sums it all up very well, "with all
these activities, WYC's not leaving me any spare time".
