WYC's offers a great sailing program for juniors and seniors, for novices and experts:

Our unique setting on beautiful Westlake lake provides a calm-water environment:

  • free from the hazards of large-boat traffic

  • free from strong currents
  • free from unpredictable ocean weather.

This is the ideal venue to learn to sail or to develop racing skills.

Our fleet of exciting boats are available for members' use and range from 8-foot dinghies to 18-foot keel boats. This fleet includes

  • Sabots

  • Lasers
  • CFJ's (Flying Juniors)
  • Catalina Capri 14.2's.
  • Three new Catalina 18's (available in June), excellent for racing with 1 to 4-man crews, and also excellent for family cruising with a capacity of 5 or more, providing cabins and comfortable amenities.

Sailing instruction is available year-round and covers all aspects of sailing:

  • water safety

  • beginning sailing
  • intermediate sailing
  • advanced sailing
  • sailboat racing

Junior memberships are free to all regular members' children under the age of 19. For others, junior members' annual dues are only $95. Our summer program for juniors is extremely popular and provides fun for the whole family.

WYC hosts about two regattas each month, and our sailors frequently travel to regattas at other yacht clubs. Regattas are usually held on Sundays. All boats of the same class, e.g. Sabots, race against each other. A regatta may consist of four or five races for each of three or four boat classes. Trophies are awarded to the best skippers.

Many Club members prefer to participate and support the sailing program while remaining on dry land. Race Committee members enjoy the spectacle of sailboat racing and the panoramic views from the clubhouse tower. Join the Race Committee, have fun and learn the ropes, the flags, the whistles, etc.
