Developing sailing skills is our goal.

Instruction is in US Sabots, an 8-ft. single-handed dinghy. As in past years, beginning sailing will be a primary emphasis. But we also offer an excellent venue for students to perfect and develop their sailing skills in intermediate and advanced classes. We have added additional intermediate classes to address the growing demand for this level of instruction.

This is not day-care. As always, our goal is to develop enthusiastic, competent sailors, with sufficient confidence and proficiency to sail competitively in the numerous regattas held throughout the year. Yacht clubs which host US Sabot regattas include Westlake, Santa Barbara, Marina del Rey and King Harbor. CFJ’s are used in both high school and college level competition. We view our summer sailing instruction program as an ideal opportunity to introduce young sailors to this exciting sport.

Students must have basic swimming skills, but must nonetheless supply and wear a life jacket. Ages 8 to 17 (we limit 8-year olds per class, so slots go quickly).

Beginning Sailing

Westlake Lake is an ideal locale for teaching beginners. These are among our most popular classes and are always over-subscribed.

Classes are for all ages. While we accept students as young as 9-years old, we ask that parents of young students consider whether their children are ready for single-handed sailing. Participants are encouraged to provide their own Sabots, if possible, so that we may accommodate as many beginning students as practicable.

Intermediate & Advanced-Intermediate Sailing

Prior sailing experience is a prerequisite; we expect students to have completed our beginning instruction or the equivalent.

Sabot Racing

We encourage our new and returning sailors to participate in regattas throughout the year.

Additional Sailing Classes

Classes are also available during the summer and throughout the year for both youth and adults in a variety of boats, including Sabots, Lasers, Capri 13's and CFJ's ( a double-handed boat.)

Please contact Kate Shaw for a list of instructors. (818) 991-2569
