Program Leadership

The Junior Sailing Program is headed by R/C Julie Trussell and assisted by Junior Sailing Advisor Melissa Lee.

Overall Sailing and Regatta Activity is the responsibility of WYC Rear Commodore, Julie Trussell, Westlake Yacht Club, 32119 W. Lindero Canyon Blvd. Westlake Village, CA 91361. 818-889-4820

Program Costs

For Students Ages 9-17

For WYC Members and their family, $450 for 1 session. For Non-members $475 for 1 session. Fees include one annual Junior WYC Membership for the participant. Registration for multiple sessions is encouraged to improve sailing skills. Additional sessions are $450 each.

2022 Course Outline

All sessions provide Certified U.S. Sailing Instructors teaching boat rigging and derigging, emergencies, working wind, docking, regatta and daily racing. Students receive classroom instruction and supervised sailing on the lake. All students receive certificates of completion.

Sessions are limited and fill quickly.

Please Note: There are no waiting lists. There is a $25 cancellation fee to defray administrative costs.

After June 1, there are NO REFUNDS..

Session 1 Jun 13 – Jun 17
Session 2 Jun 20 – Jun 24
Session 3 Jun 27 – Jul 1
- Break - Jul 4 – Jul 8
Session 4 Jul 11 – Jul 15
Session 5 Jul 18 – Jul 22
Session 6 Jul 25 – Jul 29
Session 7 Aug 1 – Aug 5
Session 8 Aug 8 - Aug 12

Session Details:

Each Session is 5 days, Monday - Friday
Students are involved in outdoor on the water sessions
Instruction begins at 11:30am and ends at 5:00pm
Students are divided according to age and skill level
All Students/Sailors must have basic swimming skills, weigh at least 60 pounds, bring and wear a life jacket, sunscreen and bottle water.
Each sailor will be assigned a personal sailboat for which they are responsible.
Graduation Certificates Awarded on Fridays each week.

Classes are held at Westlake Yacht Club, 32119 Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village.
